Out-of-This-World New Mexico: Roswell, Spaceport & White Sands National Park 9/10/2022 9am $985.00 (Double)
Experience the thrill of the next frontier….from the UFO phenomenon in Roswell, to Spaceport America, to the unearthly beauty of White Sands National Park—a place like no other on Earth, where waving dunes of white stretch out before your feet --an experience that can barely be captured into words. Come with us as we “invade” New Mexico and have an out-of-this-world experience. Imagine sitting in the cockpit of a space vehicle and launching from a two-mile-long runway in the middle of a New Mexico desert. Imagine the heart-pounding, dizzying effect of weightlessness in outer space. Learn about how you can experience a launch, weightlessness, and other fantastic activities at America’s first spaceport. The first purpose-built commercial spaceport in the world, Spaceport America, is a launch complex and active test facility. It is not open to the public…but will be open for us on a private tour of Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight headquarters. Spaceport America is a remarkable training location for astronauts, and situated in Truth-or-Consequences New Mexico, formerly known as Hot Springs, a destination for wellness tourism and “taking the waters” at the many bath houses in town. Today, the area is full of charmingly restored hotels reflecting that history. Our 6-night tour also includes two nights in Roswell, New Mexico, home of the famous UFO crash in 1947. Since that time, numbers of civilian and military witnesses have come forward to talk about their role in the so-called "Roswell Incident.” Enjoy an educational, informative, and fun journey to the place where it all happened. Follow the fascinating story of the UFO Incident as you visit the famous UFO museum, a local planetarium, and take flight in a virtual reality attraction masquerading as a "time-shift transporter." Our time in New Mexico also takes us to the cradle of America’s space program –the New Mexico Space Museum –a Smithsonian affiliate that applauds our exploration of the heavens with a mix of high-tech entertainment and dramatic exhibits. Among them are the John P. Stapp Air and Space Park, with large displays of the Apollo program’s Little Joe II rocket; the Daisy Track exhibit, which includes a tribute to the Delta Clipper Experimental; and the Clyde W. Tombaugh Theater and Planetarium, featuring a giant dome-screen and state-of-the-art surround sound to fully immerse the audience. But that’s not all. Our time in New Mexico includes a visit to one of the most unique National Parks—White Sands National Park-- completely surrounded by the White Sands Missile Range. The park is in the Tularosa Basin, and is a field of white sand dunes composed of gypsum crystals. This gypsum dunefield is the largest of its kind on Earth.
