Lewis and Clark River Expedition: featuring authentic Mississippi Riverboat Cruise, St Charles, and Hannibal, Missouri 5/29/2022 8:30am $1,295.00 (Double)
Lewis and Clark were known as great explorers. Come explore the mighty Mississippi River with us-- in style, comfort, and convenience! The TWILIGHT, at 126 ft. in length, has the power and accommodations to make this a cruise to remember. Coveted as the “the most elegant riverboat to be launched in the last 100 years,” the TWILIGHT was carefully designed to replicate the lavish steamboats popular in the Victorian era. A rounded stern and high attention to ornate detailing plays up your classic riverboat experience. Mile after glorious mile, you’ll enjoy the best of the Mississippi with all the ease of modern amenities. Tour also includes overnights in LeClaire, Iowa and St Charles, Missouri and a visit to the Lewis and Clark center. And two nights in charming Hannibal, Mississippi, complete with a tour of Mark Twain’s home and final night dinner and dancing cruise on the Mississippi on the Mark Twain Riverboat. Our first night takes us to St Charles, Missouri! When Clark and the men departed from Camp River Dubois on May 14, 1804, and proceeded up the Missouri River, Lewis was still in St. Louis attending to last minute business. Clark arrived in St. Charles on May 16, 1804. The men spent their time gathering more information, supplies, and attending dances in this friendly community of about 450 French-Canadians while awaiting for Lewis. Lewis rejoined the Corps on May 20th and on the next day, May 21, 1804, the Expedition "Set out from St. Charles at three oClock after getting every matter arranged, proceeded under a jentle Breese..." Our visit to the Historic District of St. Charles will find the same hospitality as we visit the Lewis & Clark Boat House and Nature Center or view the new statue of the explorers in Frontier Park along the riverfront. The Lewis and Clark Boat House and Museum brings the remarkable journey of 1803-06 to life at our riverfront base of operations in historic St. Charles, Missouri. And we share the story of the Expedition at destinations throughout the Midwest via our unique traveling fleet of replica boats and our experienced corps of re-enactors, the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles. The next day we will travel to Iowa, and check into our hotel, very close to the Riverboat cruise departure area the next day. You have time to explore this charming waterfront town tonight. And your tour includes a visit to the Buffalo Bill Riverboat center! The next morning we'll set sail down the Mississippi and board the TWILIGHT. You will have an expanded continental breakfast waiting for you before embarking on your 2 day journey down the Mississippi. Our Captain will be your guide to the wildlife, valley landscapes and historic river towns. Enjoy live entertainment, games, two snacks, lunch and dinner before arriving in historic Dubuque, Iowa. Accommodations are at the riverfront Grand Harbor Resort, where your luggage will be waiting in your room. The evening is yours to enjoy and explore the city of 5 flags. The next day start your day with breakfast at Tony Roma’s in the resort. Spend the morning, using the complimentary shuttle, exploring Dubuque’s history, architecture, shopping and other attractions. Admission is included to Iowa’s #1 attraction, the must-see Smithsonian-accredited National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. Reboard the Twilight at 11am and depart at 11:30 am for our return journey. Take in the sites and listen to more of the Captain’s narration. Enjoy lunch and dinner served at your table. We arrive back in Le Claire after dinner, then depart for our next destination Hannibal, Missouri--less than three hours away. We will check into our hotel situated in the heart of the historic district. The next day we'll tour the Mark Twain home together. As the boyhood home of Mark Twain, Hannibal is famously known as the setting for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, making this river town the perfect destination for our final day. You'll have time to explore the area on your own, before our final night event--a Mississippi River Dinner Cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat. Enjoy a night of dinner and dancing on this cruise on the Mighty Mississippi. Indulge in a delicious buffet and share a wonderful dinner, then enjoy live music from the dance floor or the deck. Listen or dance to your favorite tunes — and the band has been known to take a request or two. And you never know when a crew member or two may step up on the stage and join in!
