Grand America of Yesterday--Colonial Williamsburg, The Greenbrier, & Hot Springs, VA 8/26/2017 8:30am $1,395.00 (Double)
Ever wonder what life was like during the American Revolution? Now you can experience it on this 7 night escape to a bygone era. We have carefully produced this tour so you can get the true sense of the grand America of yesterday. We'll depart Little Rock and spend an overnight in eastern Tennessee. After breakfast, we check out and travel to Abingdon, Virginia the oldest town west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lunch is at the Martha Washington Inn built in 1832 as a private residence by a Virginia General. The Martha Washington Inn evolved into a young ladies finishing school and during the Civil War it served as a hospital with legends from that era persisting today. After lunch, we continue to Hot Springs, Virginia where you’ll check in to our hotel, The Homestead--a National Historic Landmark who welcomed its first guests a decade before the American Revolution. It's a place where Presidents and princes were among the guests who have "taken the waters" in the resort's legendary healing springs. Today, The Homestead continues to offer gracious service, elegant accommodations and distinctive Southern charm. On day two we'll visit The Greenbrier where we’ll enjoy a Bunker Tour. Surrounded by the Allegheny Mountains, the secret Eisenhower-era underground bunker here was designed to house members of Congress and their staffs during and after a nuclear attack. When decommissioned, all furnishings and equipment were removed. The Greenbrier has replicated the original contents as closely as possible. You’ll see the cafeteria, dormitories, decontamination chambers and a clinic complete with an operating room. After your tour, you’ll enjoy lunch at The Greenbrier which has welcomed distinguished guests since 1778! We will the return to The Homestead with the remainder of the afternoon to enjoy this luxurious inn. You might choose to enjoy complimentary tea service in the Main Foyer or enjoy a complimentary tour of the property, which opened 10 years before the Declaration of Independence was signed. Perhaps you'd rather enjoy a carriage ride along the wooded trails or stroll the quaint village of Hot Springs. Either way, you will have plenty of free time to enjoy this iconic landmark. The next day we'll depart and pay a visit to Monticello-- the autobiographical masterpiece of Thomas Jefferson—designed and redesigned for more than forty years—and its gardens were a botanic showpiece. After an included lunch we'll depart Monticello for nearby Williamsburg for three nights. While in Williamsburg we'll have dinner in a historic tavern, and experience Colonial Williamsburg, the largest living history museum in the country. It is part of the Historic Triangle of Virginia with the Colonial Parkway linking it to Jamestown and Yorktown, our other two stops during our stay in Williamsburg. TOUR INCLUDES: Roundtrip luxury motorcoach transportation, 7 nights hotel lodging (2 nights en route, 2 nights at the Historical Omni Homestead Resort, 3 nights in Colonial Williamsburg), 11 meals (7 breakfast, 3 lunch- Martha Washington Inn, Greenbrier & Monticello, 1 Dinner-Historical Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg), admission to all attractions- History tour of the Homestead, Greenbrier Bunker Tour, Monticello, admission and guided tour of Colonial Williamsburg & museums, Historic Jamestowne, and the Battle of Yorktown), all applicable taxes and fees.
