Natchez Spring Pilgrimage 2018! 4/3/2018 8:30 am $495.00 (Double)
It’s a tradition dating back to 1932, transporting “pilgrims” to a beautiful antebellum time- it’s Natchez Spring Pilgrimage! If you love antebellum history, Greek revival architecture, and the very essence of 19th-century Southern gentility- don’t miss this incredible celebration that includes theater performances, special presentations and live music, all focused around stunning antebellum homes! The azaleas alone will sweep you off your feet! Our two-night/ three-day tour features some of Natchez’s most historical homes and exciting experiences Spring Pilgrimage has to offer! Upon arrival to Natchez, we kick off our Pilgrimage tour with a special dinner and tour at the Lansdowne home. Occupied by descendants of the original builder on the land, and owned by the family since the 1780’s- this unique and inviting home features original furnishings and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is truly a gem in the heart of Natchez! We continue the evening with a stirring performance tribute to the African American experience in Natchez by the award winning Holy Family Choir! The Southern Road to Freedom choir tells stories through song and offers a moving glimpse into the lives and achievements of African Americans in Natchez. The next morning we hit the ground running with our local Natchez step-on-guide, as we will discover the rich history, and meaning behind Spring Pilgrimage. Our morning highlights include Bluff Park for a stunning picture opportunity of the Mississippi River, the William Johnson House-the mansion of a former slave known as the “barber” of Natchez, the Natchez in Historic Photographs exhibit-an astonishing collection of photographs of early Natchez, and shopping and lunch in Historic Downtown! Following lunch, we tour two incredible homes that imitate the beauty of Spring Pilgrimage in Natchez. Our first home tour is Elgin Plantation-a quintessential plantation home resting on 25 acres, with beautiful azaleas surrounding the property. Just ten minutes from town will take you hundreds of years into the past as we tour the historical Elgin Plantation! We continue our Pilgrimage tour with the Twin Oaks home, where homemade butter biscuits and almond sweet tea await us. Originally the home of notorious couple Pierce and Cornelia Connelly, the home is now owned by renowned Chef Regina Charboneau. It offers the perfect experience to relax and enjoy Spring Pilgrimage in Natchez! We end our day with dinner and a view at the Pilot House. The restaurant pays homage to its bluff-top views and was inspired by Mark Twain’s “Life on the Mississippi.” The beautiful and quaint dinner setting promises for a great final night in Natchez! We will return to Little Rock the next day, bidding farewell to the time we spent exploring some of the South’s richest history, stunning stories and homes, and remembering the long-rooted history of Spring Pilgrimage in Natchez.
